Angeles Inaugurates its 1st Google Business Group Chapter in Central Luzon

Google Business Group Angeles held an inauguration event last Thursday, February 20, 2014 to officially open its first chapter in Central Luzon. GBG Angeles welcomed its first set of members to DM Residente Resort to celebrate this occasion.

GBG Angeles is a community of professionals based in Angeles City and adjacent cities who are passionate in utilizing Google products and other web technologies to improve their business, organization or company. The meetup was lead by Google Business Group founder Carissa Coles and co-founder Rhena Jean Lubao. GBG Angeles aims to become the most dynamic and technology-driven business community in Pampanga and adjacent provinces. Its mission is to collaborate, share and inspire members to leverage Google products and web technologies to improve their business. In addition, members of GBG Angeles can network with other GBG independent communities globally.

JR Padilla of GBG Dagupan talked about the efforts of volunteers during typhoon Ondoy and Haiyan. It showed that GBGs are not just into sharing about technology but also open in helping kababayans during crises.

DM Residente recognizes the initiative of the community. The company itself is committed to serve its customers with warmth accommodation and impeccable service. DM Residente has six elegant types of rooms, with very inexpensive rates. Service-oriented staffs that maintain cleanliness and orderliness of each room.

All types of rooms are fully-airconditioned which include complete facilities; a comfortable bed, shower with heater, mini-refrigerator, wide-screen television, internet connections, and direct telephone lines.

1st GBG Angeles Meetup at Beatico

The Meet Up was led by Google Business Group Angeles founder Carissa Coles and co-founder Rhena Jean Lubao. We decided to meetup at Beatico Balibago and started the conversation at 3pm. GBG Angeles aims to become the most dynamic and technology-driven business community in Pampanga and adjacent provinces.

The meetup was attended by 10 people who are now official members of the group. We talked about Google's initiatives this year such as Inaugural Meetup, MapUp, Women on the Web, gDayX, and Transformation Challenge Workshop Series.

All of us shared ideas on how we can pull these off and make it successful. We're looking forward to these events.

What is a MapUp?

A MapUp is an event in which a group of people come together to improve the places they know and love on Google Maps by using Google Map Maker. MapUps can focus on the map of a neighborhood, region, or even for a particular feature such as hiking trails or cycling routes. MapUps can also serve to teach new mappers how to use Google Map Maker, bring together experienced mappers, and everything in between.

What type of MapUp are we going to do?

Attendees in a room with laptops and internet connection, train you on the MapMaker tool & start mapping right away!

Mappers are required to bring the following

1st Angeles City MapUp

We had a successful MapUp last year. Thanks to JR Padilla of GBG Dagupan being our MapUp trainer.

Our MapUp event is a Geo-walk where mappers went out to look for business, landmarks, and other places and get information about the business (business name, store hours and complete address). We also took few photos of the business we mapped.

Our goal which is to map the entire Angeles City is not finish in this event but we encouraged each other to continue what we've started.

We still have a lot of mapups coming in this 2014 and we're looking forward to bring in more mappers.

Happy Mapping!
